The card counters are not required to memorize all the cards that have been played. There is a system that helps to keep track of the cards; by keeping a count of small numbers that are given to group of the cards, the player knows the percentage of small cards and tens in the remaining deck. Correct Blackjack counting strategy can decrease the house edge. That is why most casinos have switched from a single deck game to a multiple one. Although most US jurisdictions do not consider card blackjack counting illegal, due to the fact that most casinos are a private property, practically all of them still have the right to ban all players found or suspected in card blackjack counting. Electronic and other counting devices are prohibited.
